THE GROUP MEETS on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 10:00am at Worden Park Car Park on Worden Lane at Leyland.

BACKGROUND – We are a relatively new & friendly group and our opening aims were to hold short strolls of around 1 to 2 miles at various locations in this area, including the parks at Yarrow Valley, Cuerden Valley and our own Worden Park. Thereafter, we usually call into a cafe at the end of each walk for a coffee & chat.

During 2024 we were blessed with good weather on our strolls & in Yarrow Valley we were lucky enough to see grey squirrels, a Great Crested Grebe feeding a juvenile, a heron on it’s platform nest in the trees & seven cygnets with parents.

From Spring 2025 we will continue to hold our short strolls but sticking to our own local area of Worden Park during the dry/warm weather & not forgetting our coffee & chat at the completion of our strolls.

May 2025 stroll included five partaking of the walk. From Worden Park car park we made our way towards the woods along The Avenue passing the mini golf & miniature railway and entered Shaw Wood at the far end of the Avenue near the rear park gates / Shawbrook Road entrance. We took the path down to Shaw Brook & beyond zig zagging along the footpath as far as the Folly & water cascade, we saw an abundance of wild flowers, including Bluebells, Wild Garlic & Common Soapwort, not forgetting some impressive trees & greenery. From the Folly we headed back up towards Worden Hall, passing the formal gardens, for our final destination – a drink and chat!! Why not swell our numbers and join us next month (Wednesday – 10:00am – 4th June).
